Introduction

Soil erosion involves the breakdown, detachment, transport, and redistribution of soil particles by forces of water, wind, or gravity. This natural process can lead to significant issues if not managed properly, such as destabilizing landscapes and damaging property. The Challenge

Our client reached out to us with a pressing issue: heavy rain was causing significant erosion along the edge of their driveway and hillside. The concentrated water flow was creating four-foot deep divots, threatening not only their driveway but also encroaching closer to their home.

Our Solution

To address this, we extended an existing partial wall around most of the hillside. We brought in 20 tons of fill dirt to fill and smooth out these massive divots. To further protect the hillside, we laid down heavy-duty road fabric and covered it with riprap—large rocks up to 24 inches—to stabilize the slope.

For added protection at the driveway's edge, we extended the wall by 50 feet and built it to guide water safely down to where we'd placed riprap. This created a natural path for water flow without causing damage.

The Result

After completing our work, our client was thrilled with how everything looked and functioned. Shortly after installation, heavy rain tested our efforts—and passed with flying colors! The erosion control measures held up perfectly.
